Tall Ships in Charleston
We had the pleasure of sailing in Charleston Harbor while the tall ships from various part of the world were visiting. Vessels from various parts of America were represented including vessels from Bermuda, Scotland and Columbia.
There was huge public interest in the boats and it was quite a sight seeing the mix of pleasure boaters out bidding farewell to the tall ships when they made their parade and exit.

Above, the crew from Gloria was singing in the rigging. This was so spectacular, some of our guests on my boat had tears in their eyes. It is hard to imagine that in the old days, these vessels plowed our oceans bring trade and commerce to various parts of the world, with crew up in the rigging as this crew was standing on the various booms waving and singing.

What is a quite disturbing is that the Department of Homeland Security via the US Coast Guard was on patrol with their gunboats. Two gunboats were present 24 hrs a day while the vessels were tied up on the pier, patroling. This made it really look like we are living in either a police state, or one that is extremely paranoid.
